Dean Mental Health
Dean's mental health specialists provide comprehensive mental health services for patients of all ages. Mental health specialists include:
- Psychiatrists — Designated with an MD or DO, psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in diagnosing and treating mental disorders. A clinical psychiatrist can prescribe medications when necessary.
- Psychologists — Designated with a PhD or PsyD, psychologists are doctoral-level clinicians. A clinical psychologist provides psychological testing and evaluation, diagnosis and psychotherapy.
- Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Other Masters-prepared Therapists — Designated with LCSW, LMFT or LPC, these professionals are part of the mental heath therapist team. They provide assessment, diagnosis and psychotherapy services.
- Psychiatric Nurses — Designated with an RN, psychiatric nurses are teamed with physicians in order to support a patient's treatment. A psychiatric nurse may be the first to respond when a patient calls with a question about medication.
Services Provided
Dean's mental health therapists and clinicians work closely together as a team to provide a patient or family with specialized treatment, group therapy and/or special mental health programs. Services include:
- Comprehensive and confidential mental health care, including assessment, testing and diagnosis
- Counseling and support for life transitions including individual emotional issues, family problems, parenting issues, grief and loss, terminal illness, and marital concerns
- Medication intervention
- A wide variety of psychotherapeutic approaches
- Crisis management when needed
Services are available to patients of all ages and are covered by many insurance agencies. The Dean Psychiatry Department operates out of the following Dean Clinic locations — Dean Clinic - Fish Hatchery, Dean Clinic - West and Dean Clinic - East in Madison and Dean Clinic - Sun Prairie.
Who Receives Treatment?
Consultation, counseling and mental health treatment are available for a wide variety of special patient groups. Patients range from those with serious emotional disturbance or mental illness requiring long-term care and treatment, to individuals requesting counseling and support for life transitions.
Persons of all ages, and all sexual orientations and lifestyles are welcome. Interpretation and translation services are available if requested in advance for non-English speaking and hearing-impaired patients or family members.
Treatment plans are crafted in collaboration with the patient's mental health provider, and may be of short or long term in duration.
