Dean Neurological Institute & Spine Center Named Official MDA Clinic

Dean Clinic Teams with Muscular Dystrophy Association to Provide Neuromuscular Care

Nearly $59 million dollars was raised during the annual Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon on September 6. The money raised helps support the thousands of Americans living with neuromuscular diseases.

Dean Clinic has also been committed to caring for people living with neuromuscular disorders and has been a long-time supporter of MDA.  This month, the Muscular Dystrophy Association named the Dean Neurological Institute & Spine Center an official MDA Clinic, for its commitment to multi disciplinary care for patients with neuromuscular disease.

“Patients can see their neurologist, schedule their occupational and/or physical therapy, maybe discuss orthotics options they are considering, and see an MDA representative all in one visit,” says Dean Clinic’s Oliver Ni, MD.  “The teamwork approach reduces travel time for patients and improves overall patient care.”

Dean has had a neuromuscular multi-disciplinary clinic since April of 2010. Doctors Oliver Ni, MD and Michael Snyder, MD are both subspecialty board certified in neuromuscular diseases and have worked with patients with neuromuscular disorders for many years. They are part of the clinic’s team of staff, comprised of physicians, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, genetic counselors, orthotics specialists and the MDA representatives themselves. Dr. Ni believes many patients will benefit from this wonderful partnership between Dean Clinic and the MDA.

“Our entire team is thrilled to be part of the MDA, and we look forward to working with them to provide exceptional patient care,” says Dr. Ni.

Dean is one of just 300 designated MDA Clinics in the nation and will receive a grant of $25,000 per year dedicated to certain types of neuromuscular patient care and expenses.  MDA Clinics also serve as sites for clinical trials of the latest experimental therapies and drugs.
