2010 Madison Sports Hall of Fame Inducts Conrad Andringa, MD
Long-time Dean Clinic Pediatrician Honored for Serving Athletes in the Community
The Madison Sports Hall of Fame's Class of 2010 is a mixture of outstanding athletic ability, concern and compassion for Madison's youth and athletes, and a journalist and marketer who helped the UW athletic department rise to great levels.
Dr. Conrad Andringa, Al Hovland, Greg O'Brien and Vince Sweeney will join the long list of the city's finest sports figures when they are inducted into the Madison Sports Hall of Fame on Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at the Induction Ceremony and Dinner at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center.
Dr. Conrad Andringa has been a practicing physician at the Dean Clinic in Madison since the late 1960s. The former WIAA state finalist and All-American swimmer at Waukesha High School, has been serving Madison area athletes and University of Wisconsin athletes for many years. He served as the team physician to the 1976 United States men's Olympic hockey team coached by his longtime friend, Bob Johnson. The athletic Fieldhouse at Memorial High School is named after him for all the years of dedicated service he has given to the school's athletic program. He has been a WIAA tournament physician and a member of the WIAA Sports Medical Advisory Committee for more than 30 years. He was also awarded the Dave McClain Achievement Award by the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association in 2008.
The Madison Sports Hall of Fame was started in 1963 to recognize and honor great athletes and sports figures from Madison. The club hosts weekly meetings from August through June and holds the induction ceremony every June. There are more than 150 inductees in the Madison Sports Hall of Fame.
